Mountain Bike Riding is a tremendous stimulant for body and soul and we can suggest many Cross Curricular Activities you can combine with the health sport and fitness activity on MTBs.

Each activity can be led by teachers or by our own guide the choice is yours.

Here are some of  our ideas I am sure you will think of many more.

Sketch and Ride  :-
This activity takes your group to many different locations around The Chase, short halts of different lengths of time will be called for quick sketching of the surroundings, some will be 15 minutes some 1 minute. The aim is to fill an A4 sketch pad, the learning objective is to encourage observation and loosen the wrist and hand to gain more flow to the sketching ability of each pupil. The mountain bike ride will be geared to each groups mixed ability, lengthier halts for the less fit groups but never more than 15 minutes.

Creative Writing from the Saddle :-
Mountain Bike to Dick Slee’s Cave and Devil’s Dumble the old Mere Pits and the Glacial Boulder the options are almost endless. There are many opportunities for creative writing, explore the senses experienced on the bikes, aching legs, shortness of breath or the wind in your face and the pleasure or panic of racing down hill. Be imaginative with the story of Dick Slee or the darker Devil’s Dumble, stories or poems, journalist or play write the learning objectives are endless.

Navigation in Action :-
Needs some preparation but The Chase is large enough to organise some great navigation activities on mountain bikes, let your imagination run wild or ask our guide when booking for ideas or to organise an event. This can be easy  or complicated it is your choice, stick to grid refs or introduce bearings or risk the GPS. Is there a mathematical learning objective here?

Enjoy the fun of Tulip Map Navigation a practical introduction to angles, degrees and shape recognition.
